CCS2 / GB/T Adapter for Electric Vehicle Charging
The Akyga® AK-SC-E32 is a CCS2 to GB/T adapter designed for fast DC charging of Chinese electric cars fitted with a GB/T DC socket. This practical solution allows vehicles to connect to European charging infrastructure without any modifications to the vehicle's electrical system.
DC fast Charging up to 300 kW
The CCS2 to GB/T adapter is designed to work with DC fast chargers. It supports charging power of up to 300 kW, with a maximum charging voltage of 1000 V and a maximum DC current of 300 A. However, the maximum charging power depends not only on the adapter, but also on the car’s capabilities, the charging station’s specifications, the battery’s charge level and the temperature.
CCS2 and GB/T – Two Different Standards
In Europe, fast-charging points most commonly use the CCS2 connector. This is a widely adopted European charging standard, specified under the AFIR Regulation (EU 2023/1804) and the IEC/EN 62196-3 standard. The CCS2 connector consists of an AC Type 2 section and two DC pins responsible for transmitting direct current.
GB/T is the Chinese EV charging standard, based on the GB/T 20234.3. The shape of the connector, the pin layout and the communication protocol differ from those of CCS2. GB/T DC uses CAN bus communication, while CCS2 DC relies on PLC (Power Line Communication). These two systems are not compatible with one another without active translation; therefore, a simple adapter is not sufficient to initiate a charging session.
ISO 15118-2 Communication
The AK-SC-E32 adapter has built-in electronics that handle data exchange between a CCS2 charging station and a GB/T vehicle. On the CCS2 side, the adapter supports communication in accordance with ISO 15118-2, and then translates this into the communication standard used by GB/T.
This enables the charging station and the vehicle to negotiate the parameters required to initiate and maintain a charging session.
Safe High-Current Charging
During high-power charging, temperature and connection quality are particularly important. The AK-SC-E32 adapter features temperature sensors and safety mechanisms to protect the adapter from operating under adverse conditions. The housing is temperature-resistant from -30°C to +50°C, and the IP54 protection rating helps to protect the device from dust and water splashes, making the adapter suitable for year-round use.
Compatibility with GB/T Electric Cars
The adapter is designed for electric cars equipped with a GB/T DC fast-charging port. It is particularly useful for vehicles imported directly from the Chinese market, where GB/T is the sole standard for DC fast charging.
The vehicle's model does not guarantee compatibility. The same model (e.g. BYD Han, NIO ES6 or vehicles from other makes) may be available with different connectors depending on the target market. Before purchasing the adapter, you should check the type of socket on your specific vehicle.
